MEDIOPROFEN Coated Tables – Oral Suspension

Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory drug

Composition:

Coated Tablets: Each coated tablet contains 400 mg Ibuprofen.

Oral Suspension: Each 5ml of oral suspension contains 100 mg Ibuprofen. Properties:

Ibuprofen is a propionic derivative that inhibits prostaglandin synthesis.

Medioprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug NSAIDS, analgesic and antipyretic. When taken oraly, peak serum level of ibuprofen occurs 1-2 hours after ingestion. Indications:

Rheumatoid arthritis.

Ankylosing Spondylitis. Osteoarthritis.

Non-rheumatoid Arthropathies. Periarticular conditions such as

Bursitis.

Low back pain.

Dental pain.

Side Effects:

Musculoskeletal disorders. Postoperative pain.

Tendinitis and Synovitis.

Traumatic cases, sprains.

Frozen shoulder (capsulitis).

Soft tissue inflammatory conditions.

Abdominal discomfort, anorexia, diarrhea, tinnitus and gastrointestinal irritation. Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to Ibuprofen.

Hypersensitivity to Aspirin or other Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory (NSAI) drugs. History of Active peptic ulceration.

Bronchospasm or asthma (relative contra-indication, as this medication may be administrated with observation).

Precautions:

It should be given with care to patients with liver or renal failure.

Avoid concomitant use with oral anticoagulants drugs (such as coumarin), as interactions have been reported in som patients.

Caution is required in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease (high risk of peptic ulceration).

Like all drugs, Medioprofen must not be used during the first 3 months of pregnancy, and it’s not recommended during lactation.

Drug interactions:

Ibuprofen increases the serum concentrations of both Digoxin and lithium.

Severe and in some cases fatal aggravation of Methotrexate toxicity has been reported.

In rare cases, Ibuprofen may increase the phenytoin toxicity.

It may attenuate the hypotensive effect of some Antihypertensive drugs.

It may increase the central adverse effects of quinolone antibiotics such as ciprofloxacine (this effect on CNS may lead to convulsions).

Dosage & Administration:

Medioprofen should be taken during or after meals.

Adults: First dose: 1200 mg daily, (400 mg 3 times daily). Then the dose is decreased to the maintenance dose (600 – 800) mg daily.

Children: The daily dosage of Medioprofen is 20 mg/kg of body weight in divided doses. For children weighing less than 30 kg, the total doses during 24 hours period should not exceed 500mg. Not recommended for children weighing less than 7 kg. 

1-2 years: One-half tea spoonful (2.5 ml = 50 mg) (3 – 4) times daily. 

3-7 years: One tea spoonful (5 ml = 100 mg) (3-4) times daily.

8-12 years: Two tea spoonful (10 ml = 200 mg) (3 – 4) times daily.

Presentation:  Coated Tablets: Each box of contains 20 coated tablets.
